For centuries, eyelashes have been a topic of conversation. In the 1300’s, the forehead was considered the most beautiful part of the woman’s face, so women would actually pluck their lashes and brows to accentuate their foreheads.

In the 60’s and 70’s, thick lashes became all the rage, so women would lather their lashes up with coat after coat of mascara. Today, the lash trends seem to be monopolized by the Kardashians. Long, wispy eyelash extensions are the new trend. But what happens if you over-do the lash extensions?

Why am I losing my eyelashes?

Before we discuss how long it takes to grow lashes back, let’s talk about why you might be losing them in the first place. There are many reasons, including the treatments that you get, the mascara that you use, your hormones, and your health!

As we mentioned above, eyelash extensions can make your lashes fall out at a quicker rate than their normal cycle. They also can leave your lashes dry and brittle. Unfortunately, prolonged eyelash extension use can even result in permanent damage to the lashes!

You could be losing your eyelashes for any number of reasons. One of the most common reasons is being allergic to your mascara. If your lashes are falling out more frequently than you’d like, stop using mascara for a few days (or switch to a different one) to test this out. If your lashes are still falling out, it may be due to a medical issue:

According to Healthline, these can include alopecia areata, scleroderma, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and Lupus.

Many people also experience hair loss as a side effect of Chemotherapy. Just like the hair all over your body, eyelash loss can begin gradually after starting chemo. The amount of eyelash loss depends on the person and the chemotherapy treatment. Some people may lose all of their lashes, while some may only experience a thinning of the eyelashes.

Whatever your reason for hair loss is, there are many natural ways to grow back your eyelashes. Especially if you lost the hair due to chemotherapy, you will need a solution that is paraben-free. ForChics has a natural eyelash growth serum that can accelerate the eyeblash growth cycle by weeks, sometimes months!

According to a published medical paper called "Adler’s Physiology of the Eye", the average adult has 100 to 150 upper eyelashes and 50 to 75 lower lashes on each lid. Each eyelash has a growth cycle that includes three phases:

    Anagen phase

This is the growth period for each eyelash. This phase typically lasts between 30-45 days. According to Lash Resource, “About 35%-40% of the upper lashes and about 15% of the lower lashes are in the Anagen phase at any one time.  Each lash will grow to a specific length and then stop.” If your eyelash falls out during this time, it won’t grow back right away. Additionally, your lashes will grow to a certain length and then stop.

    Catagen phase

This is the transition phase for your lashes. During this process, the eyelash gets cut off from the blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair. The Catagen phase for eyelashes takes about 2-3 weeks to complete.

    Telogen phase

The Telogen phase is the resting phase and is usually the longest. This phase can last anywhere from four to nine months and is the period before your eyelash falls out and a new one grows in its place.

Every day, you have eyelashes going through all three different phases. The complete eyelash cycle can take up to 11 months. You usually lose a couple of lashes a day!

How can I help my eyelashes grow back faster?

Long story short, the time that it will take to grow your eyelashes back depends on a number of factors. Age, genetics, and hormonal balance are all factors that impact how fast your eyebrows grow back. Additionally, utilizing serums, oils and vitamins can accelerate the process greatly!

Here are our top 3 tips for growing back your lashes:

    1. Healthy Diet

A healthy diet goes a long way. Beyond making you look and feel good, a balanced diet can help support eyelash growth. The nutrients that you will need more of to support accelerated hair growth include:

    Protein

Our hair is comprised mostly of protein, so a diet high in this nutrient building block is vital. Protein is the precursor to keratin, which helps eyelashes remain healthy and strong. To get protein, consumer lots of beans/lentils, broccoli, protein powder, eggs, and if it’s in your diet, salmon!

    Biotin

Biotin is also key in supporting eyelash growth, as it aids in keratin production. You can find Biotin in nuts, broccoli, kale, and whole grains.

    Vitamins A and C

These vitamins are very helpful in aiding hair growth, as they support cell and collagen production. You can find these vitamins in many fruits and vegetables, like oranges, lemons, berries, and avocados.

    Niacin

Niacin, otherwise known as Vitamin B-3, helps improve blood flow to the hair follicles, which in turn stimulates growth. You can find niacin in peanuts, peas, avocados, and some meats.

    Iron

If your diet is lacking in iron, you may cause your lashes to go into their Telogen phase early, which stunts growth. You can find iron in spinach, kale, beans, iron-fortified cereals, and some seafood and meats.

    2. Take Vitamins

If you find it difficult to increase the number of vitamins that you get, you can also use supplements to get the nutrients that you need. The vitamins that you will really want to focus on are:

    Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a long-held beauty secret. Celebrities like the Kardashian sisters have been using Vitamin E oil for decades on their lashes to help with length and growth. According to InStyle Magazine, Kourtney Kardashian said, “My sisters and I have been using vitamin-E oil since high school on our eyelids and lashes every night to condition them and promote growth.”

    Iron

Iron Deficiency Anemia is a common cause of hair loss, that could also affect your brows. It is essential that you get enough iron in your diet if you want your eyebrows to grow faster. If you are vegan or vegetarian, it is especially important for you to take an iron supplement.

    Biotin

Biotin has long been proven to help promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. Our bodies need biotin to help convert certain nutrients into energy. Biotin also plays an important role in the health of our hair, skin, and nails. If you aren’t getting enough biotin in your daily life, you may experience hair loss or a scaly red rash, according to Healthline

At ForChics, we know how important Biotin is to hair growth. That is why we have included Biotin in our tried and true ForLash growth serum. Some of our customers have seen results in as little as 3 weeks. Read more reviews here

    3. Use Castor Oil

Castor Oil is great for hair growth for a number of reasons. For one, the main compound in castor oil is ricinoleic acid, which has been linked to hair regrowth. Additionally, Castor Oil is rich in omega-9 fatty acids, which keep the hair well moisturized and nourished, preventing breakage.

As castor oil is a natural humectant  (an ingredient found in lotions and cleansers that hydrate the skin by attracting water molecules like a magnet), it deeply moisturizes the hair. That is why Castor Oil is great for keeping both hair and eyebrow hair looking shiny and healthy.

At ForChics, we know the benefits of Castor Oil inside and out. That is why our ForLash growth serum contains premium Castor Oil to help accelerate hair growth. Just like almost all problems in life, your eyebrow hair loss can be fixed by the right oil and some heavy moisturizing.
